Club Trophies

The club has many trophies, generously donated over the years. Most of them are for club members but a few are open to non-members at open shows. Polnoon has a range of competitions during the year, from show jumping to dressage. There are also class awards at open shows and cumulative club member points awards.

Trophies are presented each year and held for one year.

All About Polnoon.

History of the Club.

Polnoon began in 1961. It was named for the village of Polnoon near Eaglesham, which was close to the original founders.

The Club has evolved over the years in many ways. At the beginning, competitors used to hack to competitions from their stables - transport was scarce and expensive. It was called the "warm-up"!

More information about the club history will appear in time. We have a club member going through the archive and we hope that the end result will make interesting reading.

What We Do

Polnoon is affiliated to British Riding Clubs and also to horsescotland.

The club's objectives, taken from the Club Constitution, are :-

  • to encourage riding as a sport and to promote good fellowship amongst riders
  • to improve and maintain the standard of riding and horsemanship
  • to organise instructional meetings, lectures and competitive events and other activities deemed to further the objectives
  • to support organisations interested in the breeding and use of all types of horses and ponies
  • to investigate bridle tracks and rights of way with a view to opening those which have been closed and maintaining and more clearly defining those in existence
  • to concern itself with anything which will benefit the horse and rider in the district.

Quite a broad remit, I am sure you will agree!

Less formally, the main activities of the club are the Club Nights, which run most months; annual events, such as the dressage show and the showing show; and training sessions, which run as often as there is demand.

The club has a committee, elected by the membership. Each committee member sits for a three-year period and then, if willing, may stand for re-election. Any member may be proposed for the committee.

The club used to distribute a (costly) newsletter each month which carried details for forthcoming events. This has been superceded by Polnoon's web presence both on this site and on Facebook. Polnoon activities are widely publicized.

Club Nights which range from talks on equestrian subjects to competitions.

Schooling (training) sessions are run in a variety of disciplines from basic horsemanship to cross-country techniques. Polnoon uses a number of trainers, a list of the great and good which varies over time.

Being a member enables you to compete in open events run by other Riding Clubs.

Another benefit of membership is third party insurance cover. As an affiliated riding club, PCRA must pay a membership levy to the British Riding Clubs. The major portion of this levy is an insurance premium which covers members against third party claims when riding in Riding Club events.

Club Sponsors

The club is very fortunate that it has had the support of many, wonderful sponsors over the years. Some sponsor a single class at an event while others sponsor whole shows, teams expenses and other things. Every bit of help is welcomed gratefully. Without our sponsors, the club would be much less successful.
