About Competitions
Competition rules
The official rule book is available from British Riding Clubs. Where appropriate, rules are taken from the official rules of British Dressage, British Show Jumping Association and British Horse Trials Association.
The rule book is rather too large to be covered here! Yet again, if in doubt, ask a committee member.
Copies can be bought from British Riding Clubs, Stoneleigh Park, Kenilworth, Warwickshire CV8 2XZ and are also available on the BRC web site.
BRC Competitions
British Riding Clubs run a series of competitions each year. Clubs can enter teams and individuals. These competitions start with qualifiers at Area level. Teams and individuals who qualify go forward to the UK finals.
In the winter, there are indoor qualifiers for dressage and show jumping. In the summer, qualifiers are run for dressage, show jumping, hunter trials, showing and horse trials.
NAF Indoor Show Jumping Championships and Dressage final is held at Hartpury College in the spring.
BRC Kbis British Equestrian Insurance Regional Hunter Trial Championships is a new, regional series. It was trialled in 2010/11 with the final at Durham in April.
SEIB National Horse Trials Championship will be held at Aston-le-Walls, Northamptonshire in August.
NAF National Championships are held at Lincoln Show Ground in September and feature dressage, riding test and show jumping.
Polnoon Teams
If you have never competed as a team member, try it out. It is surprising how much it adds to the competition experience. Teams help each other out and encourage each other. Its like having a support crew!
Polnoon has always been competitive but in a nice way. Polnoon makes up teams from people who want to play. One of the prime instructions is to have fun and enjoy the experience.
Club teams are put together each year by Sheona McNeill. She creates teams from the members who put themselves forward or who are encouraged to have a go. The club often puts several teams together for the same competition. One of the wonderful things about this is that, where one team may loook like winners on paper, so often it is another of the teams that takes the honours!
Have a look at the Polnoon Teams Information Sheet for an insight into being in a team.
As far as the BRC competitions are concerned, we will enter teams and individuals for dressage, show jumping, riding test, horse trials and hunter trials.
Of course, there are other competitions around. Area 1 has started some interesting ones this year and we shall see how they go. And quite often another club or venue will run a team competition. Where possible, Polnoon will facilitate members who want to compete.
Polnoon Team Stories
Ah! I remember it well!
Polnoon Team success goes back to the beginnnings of the club. The above photo shows a Polnoon Team at Olympia many moons ago. Have fun trying to work out who they are!
In the past 10 years, Polnoon has had a golden period. Not only have club teams and individuals taken the winning spot in every discipline entered at the Area, the members who travelled to Lincoln and Offchurch (where the horse trials championship used to run) came back with prizes galore. The club has won Novice Team Dressage and Novice Team Show Jumpingat Lincoln and individuals have come back with firsts in pretty much everything.
In one busy year, several lorry loads went south. It was frantic! Members competing in Dressage Team, Riding Test Team and a Show Jumping team, as well as individual dressage and riding tests!
Club Sponsors
The club is very fortunate that it has had the support of many, wonderful sponsors over the years. Some sponsor a single class at an event while others sponsor whole shows, teams expenses and other things. Every bit of help is welcomed gratefully. Without our sponsors, the club would be much less successful. Click here for full sponsor details.
